How to Hang a Wreath on a Glass Door

One of the most popular ways to decorate a glass door for the holidays is by hanging a wreath. You can purchase a pre-made wreath from your local craft store or florist, or you can make your own!

Make your own wreath

If you decide to make your own wreath, you will need some basic supplies such as:

  • Wire
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Fake or fresh greenery

Once you have gathered your supplies, follow these simple steps:

Cut a length of wire that is long enough to wrap around the circumference of your wreath plus an additional 6 inches. Make a loop at one end of the wire and twist it closed so that it will stay in place.

Wrap the wire around the wreath form, overlapping the ends as you go. When you reach the end, twist the wire closed again. This will secure your greenery to the wreath form.

Cut pieces of greenery from your stem and insert them into the wire loop around the wreath form, tucking them in as needed. Continue until the entire wreath form is covered.

Once you are happy with how your wreath looks, cut a piece of ribbon and tie it around the top of the wreath form.

Hanging your wreath

The most important thing is to avoid damaging or leaving a mark on your glass door. The last thing you want to start the festive season is to call an emergency glazier for glass door repair.

We would recommend three ways to hang your wreath and not damage your glass door. You can use:

  • A ribbon
  • Command strips
  • Suction cups

A brightly coloured ribbon will add to the festive feeling. Make sure you tie a good strong knot on, ideally, two strong anchor points. If you only use one it might swing in the wind!

Command strips will be much more secure than a ribbon, they are designed to not leave any glue marks when removed. They are strong and you can secure the wreath with multiple strips if your door is open to the elements.

If you opt to go for suction cups think about the strength of the suction. Cheap suction cups are unlikely to survive until the new year, and temperature changes might make them lose their strength. That being said, suction cups are likely to be your best bet for a damage-free glass door.
